Rental Car Hire - FAQ

What is included in the hire rate?

The rate being quoted will include the daily hire charge, limited or unlimited kilometers depending on the number of days, standard comprehensive insurance, and GST (Government Goods and Services Tax). 1 to 3 day hires generally have restricted kms but differ branch to branch. All branches can tailor packages to suit. All rates are quoted in New Zealand dollars.

How does the daily rate calculate?

The calculated daily rate is on a per day basis and is for a minimum of 24 hours. Collection and return of vehicles, are during business hours. Outside of business hours, will be by individual branch arrangement and in most cases fees will apply for airport parking or car collection.

Is insurance included in the rate?

Standard comprehensive insurance is included in all daily rates unless otherwise specified. An insurance excess does apply subject to age, vehicle and licence type. A $1900.00 insurance excess applies to 25yrs and over. Under age drivers have an additional $500 (21yr to 25yr) and $800 (18yr to 21yr). A higher excess will apply to suv, specialty, mini-bus, mini-coaches and trucks. Optional Excess Reduction is available. CDR (Collision Damage Reduction) can be purchased as an option at the commencement of hire. All subject to change from branch to branch.

How do we pay for our hire?

All hires can be paid by Credit card, Eftpos or Cash. An additional sum is required for a security bond when a credit card cannot be supplied. This will in most cases be the excess applicable unless you have chosen a zero excess option where a small bond will be required for additional days, fuel and admin charges.

What minimum age is the driver to be?

All drivers from the age of 18 yrs are eligible to drive dependant on licence conditions.

What type of license is required?

All hirers must have a drivers licence to drive a motor vehicle. International License's are accepted, as well as all English written licences. If your licence is not in English you will be required to have it translated into English before we can hire a vehicle to you.

Drivers on restricted licences – please check with the branch concerned as acceptance of and T&Cs for restricted licence holders varies by branch and some locations do require you to have a full licence.

Note that a NSW or Queensland digital drivers licence can NOT be used to hire a car in New Zealand, you must bring your plastic licence with you.

Is there a minimum hire period?

There is no minimum period, unless previously stated in the booking process. This can change from time to time depending on location, season and availability.

What are your cancellation fees?

Do you have Baby seats available?

Yes - most branches carry baby seats and booster seats and vehicles are fitted with anchor points. Pricing is all available online, please ask when booking via phone.

Is the vehicle full of fuel at pickup and what fuel octane is used?

All vehicles are supplied FULL of fuel at the beginning of the hire and must be returned full at completion of the hire. Low octane 91 is used in all petrol vehicles, unless stated on the Rental Agreement. Diesel vehicles take diesel fuel only.

What do we do in the event of a breakdown?

In the unlikely event of a breakdown, call us on the Free call 0800 73 68 23 number, for the matter to be attended to. If we are unable to rectify the fault in reasonable time, a replacement vehicle will be supplied to you.

Do we pay a deposit when making a booking?

This is branch specific and will be made known during the booking process before you enter your credit card details. In most cases a deposit will be required for a Mini-bus or a Specialty vehicle. An amount no less than $100.00, or 10% of the hire.. For long hires over peak season a deposit will most certainly be required. Again this will be mentioned at the time of booking.

Can we pickup and / or drop off the vehicle outside of office hours?

Yes arrangements for outside of office hours can be made with each branch. These will be made clear by each branch and there may be a small fee applied to cover any costs associated. The branch who you wish to deal with will advise of any additional cost during the booking process, along with the details of collection or pickup.

Are you able to pick us up?

Our team can arrange pickup from your almost anywhere, your accommodation, airport, ferry and railway, or elsewhere but allways by prior arrangement. A service fee may apply depending on the length one has to travel. This also applies to drop off's.
